Orbit – LVS CAMHS

The Lewisham Virtual School CAMH service is an exciting new collaboration between the Lewisham virtual school team and Symbol (CAMHS team for children looked after ). A CAMHS Clinical Psychologist, CAMHS Family Therapist  and Educational Psychologist have been appointed, to offer a service to Lewisham Children Looked After placed within Lewisham and the South East of England who have been identified by the virtual school as needing some input to aid their readiness to learn, or ability to engage more fully in education.

The team has been ‘live’ since November 2015, taking referrals and requests for advice /support from members of the Virtual School team (VST). The service has been designed to been as flexible and responsive as possible, aiming to engage with requests within 7 days. All requests for involvement are facilitated through the Virtual School team, with referrals needing to be countersigned by the child or young person’s social worker.

Interventions provided by the service can include:

  • Assessment of a child/young person’s emotional well-being.
  • Support to key professionals working with a child/young person such as school staff, social workers and foster carers. This support may include formal and informal consultations, offering a facilitated thinking space, and staff training.
  • Brief CAMHS interventions to a child/young person.
  • Liaising and linking up with other CAMHS teams, alongside signposting to relevant agencies.

The new service is part of the established Symbol therapy service, enabling integrated working between CAMHS and the virtual school to support children looked after in Lewisham.
