UCL Scholars (Year 9)

The UCL Access and Widening Participation Office is delighted to announce the launch of UCL Scholars.

 What is the Scholars programme?

  • A free online literacy skills programme for Year 9 students from across the country, delivered in partnership with UCL and the National Literacy Trust.
  • The programme has two parts – online events and an online mentoring programme with current UCL Student Ambassadors.
  • The live events will take place during the school holidays in February, April and June. Each block of two days will focus on a different skills area to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills through sessions expertly put together by the National Literacy Trust.

Eligibility criteria and how to apply

In order to be eligible for a place on Scholars, students must be:

  • Currently in Year 9;
  • Attending an UK state school;
  • Currently achieving a Grade 5 or above in the majority of subjects, including English and Maths.

As we often have more applications than there are places available, we will select participants based on our widening participation eligibility criteria.

Student applications are open now and more information can be found on our website. Applications will close at 10am on Monday 18th January 2021.

If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch via scholars@ucl.ac.uk.

Envision@UCL (Years 10-13)

Envision@UCL is a three-hour online event for young people of Black Caribbean or Black African heritage in years 10-13 who are interested in learning more about university and future career options. The next Envision@UCL events will take place during the half term in February 2021.

Applications are now open, with a deadline of 9am on Monday 18th January 2021. Please see the Envision@UCL webpage for more information and a link to the application form.
